Sellout audience for Pattanaik’s exclusive lecture

RRV & His Mythological Perspectives

Keeping in line with its avowed principles of preserving and promoting the great legacy of Raja Ravi Varma, the Foundation invited noted mythologist and established author Devdutt Pattanaik to deliver an exclusive lecture on Raja Ravi Varma: His Mythological Perspectives.

The special lecture on August 28 at the Bangalore International Centre was part of the Foundation’s outreach program to spread the legacy of the artist and reach out to the masses, a prime factor which Ravi Varma sought to achieve during his lifetime.

Bringing in Mr. Pattanaik to deliver the special talk aligned with the Foundation’s goals and ideals and needless to say, it was a stellar success. The response to the talk, from the time it was put out in several social media platforms was overwhelming and it was for the very reason that the Foundation opted to conduct it at the BIC, an auditorium/convention centre that is fully equipped to meet needs of such nature.

Given the reach of the Foundation and the popularity of Mr Pattanaik, it was, as expected a sellout audience. The event was also Simulcast in Halls 1 & 2 of the BIC with more than 100 people catching the talk live.

Gitanjali Maini, Managing Trustee and CEO of the Foundation welcomed the big gathering, highlighting the Foundation’s activities and in particular, thanked Mr. Pattanaik for his association.

Gitanjali also took the opportunity to announce the launch of two new exhibits of the Foundation’s Botanical project – Raja Ravi Varma: Encounters with the Botanical – on the Google Arts and Culture platform.

The two exhibits – The Bloom of Beauty on Raja Ravi Varma’s Canvas and Raja Ravi Varma’s Enchanting Floral Tales – are in addition to eight other exhibits already on GAC.

Pattanaik then kept the audience engrossed, dwelling on the huge role that Ravi Varma played in bringing the gods and goddesses and mythological characters closer to the common man during his lifetime, by way of his art.

Pattanaik explained the mythological essence in some of Ravi Varma’s works, viz, Dhruva Narayan, Ambika, Shankar to name a few. The hour-long talk went by in a flash and he also made himself available to questions from the audience at the end of the show.

Archana Shenoy delivered the concluding note on behalf of the Foundation, thanking everyone connected with the event, including the speaker, the audience and BIC.
