Khadi A Canvas an integral part of Santati: Mahatma Gandhi - Then, Now, Next

Today marks the the 151st birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, and The Raja Ravi Varma Heritage Foundation, is proud to present its association with ‘Santati: Mahatma Gandhi - Then, Now, Next’.

This project curated by Lavina Baldota and the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai, is an artistic tribute to Mahatma Gandhi as part of the country-wide celebrations commemorating his 150th birth centenary.

A collaborative showcase of art and design, this project highlights some of the varied interpretations of Bapu’s vision for a unified and free India through ahimsa. The exhibition was inaugurated by Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev and attended by some of the biggest celebrity names like Jaya Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Juhi Chawla, Sangita Jindal, Phyroza Godrej, alongside a gamut of artists and business honchos.

The Raja Ravi Varma Heritage Foundation worked collaboratively with designer Gaurang Shah to recreate 30 of Raja Ravi Varma’s paintings and prints on a new canvas of khadi. Each saree, that bears the woven reproduction of Ravi Varma’s work on the pallu, has been hand woven in Srikakulam Jamdani on a saree of 300 count khadi.

The 30 exhibits are on display at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai from 3rd October to 15th November.
